NetLogic Microsystems Announces the World’s First 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GE) Physical Layer Solution for Next-Generation Carrier Core, Metro, Data Center and Access Aggregation Applications

Mountain View, Calif. – Nov. 10, 2008 – NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. [NASDAQ: NETL], the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, today announced it has developed the industry’s first 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GE) physical layer (PHY) solution targeted at next-generation carrier, data center and access networks. The NLP10000 solution from NetLogic Microsystems incorporates innovations in high-speed PHY technology that will enable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop 100GE systems while minimizing power consumption and form factor. The new NLP10000 100GE PHY solution supports the draft specification of the IEEE 802.3ba 100Gb/s and 40Gb/s Ethernet Task Force, whose OEM members include Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems, Force10 Networks, Fujitsu, Huawei Technologies, Juniper Networks and Nortel Networks.

A worldwide growth in broadband services and rich media content has resulted in significant bandwidth demands on carrier optical transport networks (OTN), as well as access aggregation networks for PON, DSL, Cable, 3G/4G and WiMAX. Leading service providers such as AT&T and Verizon Communications have announced early initiatives to test new 100G technologies over their existing networks. In addition, major data center and storage network managers are moving to increase network throughputs to 100GE in order to support the exponential demand for video, peer-to-peer and virtualization services.

NetLogic Microsystems’ NLP10000 100GE PHY solution features a groundbreaking architecture and advanced circuit technologies to deliver the highest 100GE density, superior jitter performance and lower power consumption. This will enable customers to develop next-generation switches, routers and transport systems for data-center, metro and long-haul applications that require a 10X increase in PHY performance while minimizing the power profile and space requirements. Furthermore, the NLP10000 solution will be offered in lead-free packaging, to allow customers to develop environmental-friendly system solutions that comply with certain green-initiative regulations.

“Our NLP10000 solution represents a revolutionary breakthrough that further separates us from the competition,” said Stefanos Sidiropoulos, vice president of Physical Layer Products at NetLogic Microsystems. “The addition of the NLP10000 solution will enable us to offer our customers unprecedented scalability for our market-leading family of high-performance, low-power and low-jitter physical layer products that span 10Gbps to 100Gbps throughput.”

“NetLogic Microsystems’ leading-edge NLP10000 solution enables network providers and OEMs to significantly enhance the performance and functionality of Ethernet solutions into the 100 Gigabit performance level,” said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group. “We expect 100 Gigabit Ethernet to eventually emerge as the technology that solves critical bottlenecks and congestions in optical transport, data center and storage networks.”

NetLogic Microsystems is now accepting orders for the NLP10000 solution and is expecting to ship first customer samples within standard lead times for NetLogic Microsystems’ products.

About NetLogic Microsystems
NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETL), a fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Mountain View, California, designs, develops and markets high-performance knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits that accelerate the delivery of voice, video, data and multimedia content for advanced enterprise, datacenter, communications and mobile wireless networks. NetLogic Microsystems’ products include high-performance knowledge-based processors, application-aware content processors, 10-Gigabit Ethernet interconnects and network search engines that are being deployed by Tier 1 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in leading systems such as routers, switches, wireless infrastructure equipment, network security appliances, datacenter servers, network access equipment and network storage devices. NetLogic Microsystems' knowledge-based processors and content processors employ an advanced processor architecture and a large knowledge or signature database containing information on the network, as well as applications and content that run on the network, to make complex decisions about individual packets of information traveling through the network. NetLogic Microsystems’ products significantly enhance the performance and functionality of next-generation networks that are designed to deliver high-definition video delivery over the Internet (IPTV), media-rich content over advanced mobile wireless services, voice transmission over the Internet (VoIP) and network security applications.
