NetLogic Microsystems’ 10GbE and 8.5G Fibre channel PHY/SerDes devices offer the best-in-class power consumption and SONET-caliber jitter performance in generic, high volume CMOS technology.
NetLogic Microsystems has developed several families of 10G PHY/SerDes products optimized for different applications:
- AEL1000/ NLP1000 Series
10GbE PHY/SerDes devices that support 10GBASE-R and 10GBASE-W standards and are power and MDIO-optimized for XAUI-based optical modules, XFP modules and limiting SFP+ based line-card applications. These devices also support 10G Fibre Channel.
- AEL2000/ NLP2000 Series
10GbE PHY/SerDes devices that integrate electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) for 10GBASE-LRM applications in XAUI-based optical modules, XFP modules, and for SFP+ based line-card applications for both optics and twin-ax copper (10GBASE-CX).
- AEL3000/ NLP3000 Series
10GbE PHY/SerDes devices that integrate EDC and Forward Error Correction (FEC) for 10GBASE-KR backplane applications.

10GbE and 10G Fibre Channel SerDes
NetLogic Microsystems’ family of single and multi-channel SerDes devices provide full implementation of the PMA, PCS and XGXS sub-layers of the IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet and INCITS 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel standards and the EDC functionality – as specified by the 10GBASE-LRM and 10GBASE-KR backplane standards.
This includes implementation of:
- 10 Gbps and 3Gbps clock and data recovery
- Electronic Dispersion Compensation (10GBASE-LRM)
- Forward Error Correction (10GBASE-KR)
- Serialization/ Deserialization
- 64B/66B and 8B/10B encoding/decoding
- Synchronization, alignment and deskew functions
The devices exhibit jitter tolerance and jitter generation performance characteristics that substantially exceed specifications. In addition, the incorporation of an integrated limiting amplifier on the standard 10G receiver port provides a single-ended input receiver sensitivity of 10mV, allowing the flexibility to choose optical components based upon price and power considerations. The XAUI interface is capable of driving 3.125 Gbps signals across 40 inches of FR-4 backplane.

SFI / XFI Bridge Devices and 8.5G Fibre Channel Retimers
NetLogic Microsystems has also developed re-timer/CDR devices for 10GbE and 8.5G Fibre Channel applications. These include devices for bridging between SFI and XFI electrical signals (with integrated EDC), signal regeneration on 10G and 8.5G traces, and for the emerging multi-channel 40GbE and 100GbE applications.
